Alright, first post... what should it be. O, I know, Gotham! Gotham is the new Fox show revolving around the career of Jim Gordon as he starts his new job as a detective in Gotham city.
At the time I'm writing this, the second episode of Gotham has premiered, But first I need to talk about the pilot episode. It was comparable to garbage. the plot was all over the place, there were too many characters being introduced, no one really got any kind of real explanation or got fleshed out in any way, and the new villain, Fish Mooney, seemed arbitrary. The kid villains seemed really weak as characters and Selina Kyle appeared to already have enhanced agility which wouldn't fit the usual Cat-Woman origin story. I curious to see how they explain that. But this was a pilot, to me that means a few things:
1. It was written way before the rest of the series.
2. It was done on the cheap.
3. They had to give a lot of information in a limited amount of time.
so in short, the sins of the pilot are not to be laid upon it's children.
Okay, that being said, the second episode was good. We got young Bruce showing signs of real psychological trauma. We got Penguin being crazy. we got Selina Kyle getting a smidgen more fleshed out. We got Edward Nigma still being a bit too campy for my liking, but still good, and we have the introduction of some new villains. Our villains this week are two camp counselor looking freaks taking homeless kids off the streets of Gotham under the guise of a homeless outreach campaign for some unknown, but surely nefarious purpose. However these wolves in sheep's clothing turn out to be only henchmen for the much more malicious character who pulls their stings known only as Dollmaker.
So, here are my prospects for Gotham. Dollmaker and other pre-Batman villains will terrorize Gotham. Mr. Freeze has already been mentioned, but I hope a younger Mad-Hatter, a gangland Killer Croc, and maybe even a scar-less Victor Zsasz will appear alongside the progressive development of Nygma, Cobblepott, and the rest of our established villainous cast. Also, I'm sure we will see some development of the Falcone/Mooney turf war. I think we all know who wins that war already though, so I hope they don't spend too much time on it. Gotham has a lot of potential. As a HUGE Batman fan I hold out hope that it will keep getting better with every week.
